CPM COVID-19 Bulletin #4

CPM COVID-19 Bulletin #4

Earlier today, Premier Brian Pallister announced a State of Emergency for Manitoba. To view announcement, click here.

This announcement can potentially impact physiotherapy clinics which operate out of a gym, or fitness facility. We are bringing this to your attention in case it concerns your business.

The Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy Regulators (CAPR) also announced today that postponements of three upcoming Physiotherapy Competency Examinations (PCE). To view their announcement, click here. This news will impact new 2020 graduates who will be delayed in starting employment as well as employers looking for new grad employees. This will also affect our current Exam Candidates practicing under Supervision.

We have been informed by other Manitoba Regulators that registrants trying to pick up a criminal record check from an RCMP detachment in the rural parts of the province may have to wait longer as the detachments are closed to the public. Criminal Record Checks are now being mailed out instead.

As of today, CPM is aware of 40 plus clinics that have closed temporarily. Thank you to those who have contacted CPM to keep this list updated. Tele-Rehabilitation remains a good tool to treat certain patients in certain circumstances. CPM encourages clinic owners to consider this method of service delivery.  MPA has asked us to share the following information with CPM members.

“MPI has received several calls during the past 24 hours from physiotherapists asking about MPI payment coverage for tele-rehabilitation for MPI clients. MPI advises MPA members that on claims where an assessment has been completed, the therapist can go ahead and provide virtual treatment if the therapist deems it beneficial in the claimant’s recovery. The current Category limits are in place and the subsequent visit fee would apply. Clinics are asked to indicate “virtual treatment” on their invoices.”

The College of Physiotherapists of Manitoba is committed to continue to update our Registrants as we receive information. We want to remind you that although our physical office is closed, you can still reach us my email (info@manitobaphysio.com) or telephone 204-287-8502.

These are trying times for everyone. Stay safe, stay healthy and be patient with everything!

On behalf of the College,

Brenda McKechnie
Registrar/Executive Director
