Step 7: Active Practice (from Inactive, another province etc.)

REGISTRATION TASKS

To register for Active Practice with CPM, you must complete these tasks

TASK 1. CONTACT CPM
Contact CPM for current Registration Requirements.  You may do this by email, phone or in person.

At this time, CPM will:

  • Direct you to where you can obtain the registration form on the website.
  • Inform you of the cost of your registration fee. The annual fee is $735 (2017). CPM will base your fee on your date of registration (fee will be prorated after August 1).
  • Inform you of the cost of the initial or re-registration fee.

TASK 2. MEMBERSHIP IN GOOD STANDING FORM
Submit a Membership in Good Standing Form from the last College(s) in which you were registered.

TASK 3.  CRIMINAL RECORD CHECK (CRC) WITH VULNERABLE SECTOR
Submit a current criminal record check with your registration package.  CPM must have the original document and the check must be no older than 6 months from the date of registration.
If you are transferring from In-Active and have remained in the province of Manitoba a CRC is not required.

Task 4. PROOF OF EMPLOYMENT AND LIABILITY INSURANCE
Submit with your package, your letter of employment as well as proof of insurance, whether it is provided by your employer, or personal liability insurance

Task 5: PROOF OF PRACTICE HOURS

CPM requires that all Active physiotherapists have completed 1200 practice hours within the last 5 consecutive years.  The College requires documentation from your previous employer(s) confirming your hours broken down per year.

TASK 6. REGISTRATION FEE 
Pay your registration fee (fee amount provided by CPM during TASK 1. CONTACT CPM).

You may pay by:

  • Cash (in person)
  • Credit card (by phone or in person)
  • Cheque (by mail or in person). Please make cheques payable to College of Physiotherapists of Manitoba

TASK 7. DELIVERY
Mail or hand-deliver your exam certificate and registration fee to:

College of Physiotherapists of Manitoba (CPM)

DECISION

CPM will take up to 1 week to process your application. CPM will send you the following by mail:

  • A receipt for your registration fee
  • A decision letter that confirms that you have been registered for Active Practice
  • A CPM membership card
  • Return any original documentation you have provided (i.e. criminal record check etc.,).

REGISTRATION RENEWAL

Your registration expires in January of every year. In December, CPM will mail you a letter to remind you that you must renew your registration. The letter will include the renewal deadline, renewal form, and registration fee.

If you fail to pay your registration renewal:

  • You will no longer be registered with CPM
  • You can no longer legally practise physiotherapy in Manitoba
  • CPM will notify your employer
