Registration as a Physiotherapist

All applicants seeking registration in Manitoba must provide the following:

  1. A certified copy of your degree/ diploma in physiotherapy. If you graduated after January 1, 2002, you will also need to provide evidence of successful completion of the Physiotherapy Competency Examination (for further information, see Examination Candidate Register).
  2. If your first language is not English or French, you must provide evidence of fluency in either of these languages. Please contact the CPM office for more information on the fluency criteria established by the Council if this requirement affects you.
  3. If you are intending to work within the next three months, please provide confirmation of future employment in Manitoba. This confirmation should be a letter from your future employer, which verifies the date of commencing employment.
  4. If you were previously registered as a physiotherapist in one or more jurisdictions, you must provide proof of membership in good standing in the last two jurisdictions in which you were registered. Please complete the Membership In Good Standing Form and return it to the CPM office.
  5. Unless you are a recent graduate, you must provide evidence from your current/previous employers of the number of hours of physiotherapy practice you have worked in the past five-(5) years. Minimum of 1200 hours of practice is required. If you are unable to fulfil this requirement, please contact the CPM office.
  6. Completion of the registration form.
  7. A completed criminal record search must be provided. (Original only, fax and copies will not be accepted)

In order to transfer from the Inactive Register to Practicing Register in Manitoba as a physiotherapist due to being on Mat Leave, you will need to provide the following:

  1. Confirmation of employment in Manitoba and written confirmation from your employer(s) of the number of hours you have worked as a physiotherapist for the five (5) years prior to this registration year. A minimum of 1200 hours is required for licensure in Manitoba.
  2. Completion of the registration form.
  3. Evidence that you meet the liability insurance requirement. The Council requires that you carry a minimum of five million dollars of coverage.  Your future employer may provide liability insurance coverage to you as an employee. If not, you will be required to purchase the insurance on your own. If your employer does provide coverage, you should check to see whether that coverage is for your employment activities only. If you are also employed elsewhere or undertaking other activities, such as volunteering at sporting events, or other non-employment physiotherapy activities, your employer paid coverage may not extend to these activities and the College will require you to purchase additional insurance.

In addition to meeting the general registration requirements, you will need to determine which register best meets your needs. There may be additional requirements in order to gain access to the following registers:

PRACTICING REGISTER

If you plan to commence employment as a physiotherapist within the next three months, you should apply for the Practicing Register. In addition to the above information, you will also need to provide:

INACTIVE REGISTER

If you are not planning to work in Manitoba within the next three months, you are eligible to register on the Inactive Register. There is no time limitation to registration on this register. However, if you are planning to commence employment, you must transfer your registration to the Practicing Register prior to commencing employment. If you will not be working in Manitoba but wish to maintain your rights and privileges as a member and stay in contact with the College via newsletter, then it is recommended that you apply for the Inactive Register.
