FOR PHYSIOTHERAPISTS

Definitions

Internationally Educated Professional (IEP)
A physiotherapist who has received his/her physiotherapy education outside of Canada.

Exam Candidate
A physiotherapist who has successfully completed the:

  • Credentialing requirements of the Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy Regulators (IEPs only)
  • Part 1: Written Component of the Physiotherapy Competency Exam (PCE)
  • Application for Registration as an Exam Candidate with the College of Physiotherapists of Manitoba (CPM)

Re-entry Candidate
A physiotherapist who has:

  • Allowed his/her registration to lapse and no longer meets the criteria of practice hours for re-registration
  • Successfully completed Part 1: Written Component of the Physiotherapist Competency Exam (PCE)

Objective Structural Clinical Exam (OSCE)
Part 2 of the Physiotherapist Competency Exam (PCE). Physiotherapists must successfully complete this exam to become registered for Active Practice with the College of Physiotherapists of Manitoba (CPM).

Clinical Rotation
An allotted time period spent in one of the major areas of physiotherapy practice such as musculoskeletal, neurological, cardio-respiratory.

Mentor
A physiotherapist registered with the College of Physiotherapists of Manitoba (CPM) with preferably a minimum of two years of physiotherapy experience, who has agreed to be a contact and resource for the Exam Candidate.

New Graduate
A person who has completed all academic and clinical requirements of an approved Canadian physiotherapy education program. The graduate may or may not have convocated from the university but has successfully completed Part 1 of the Physiotherapy Competency Exam in order to register with CPM.

Supervisor
A physiotherapist registered with the College of Physiotherapists of Manitoba (CPM) with a minimum of two years of physiotherapy experience, who has agreed to supervise the practice of the Exam Candidate.

Board of Assessors
The Board of Assessors is a statutory committee of the College of Physiotherapists of Manitoba (CPM), whose mandate is to consider and decide on applications for registration, monitor examination candidates, set additional requirements for failed candidates, and determine eligibility for registration.

Standards of Practice
The Standards of Practice is a set of guidelines that members of the College of Physiotherapists of Manitoba (CPM) are expected to follow in order to provide safe and effective care to the public.

The Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy Regulators (The Alliance)
The Alliance is an organization committed to the development and improvement of entry-level requirements for physiotherapists. The Alliance also undertakes activities of national significance on behalf of its provincial members. Membership includes 10 provincial members representing the physiotherapy regulators from across Canada with regulatory status of physiotherapists described by provincial legislation.
