Step 4: Exam Candidate

REGISTRATION TASKS

You must complete these 4 tasks to become registered as an Exam Candidate with CPM:

TASK 1: REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
Gather your required documents:

a) Proof of completion of Physiotherapy Competency Examination (PCE) Part 1 (Written Component) and registration for the next available sitting of  PCE Part 2 (Clinical Component)
Submit a Verification Request Form to the Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy Regulators (CAPR). This document will verify completion of PCE Part 1 (Written Component) and registration for PCE Part 2 (Clinical Component).

b) Criminal Record Check
Complete a Criminal Record Check, with vulnerable sector, and submit the original certificate to CPM. CPM will photocopy the certificate and return it to you by mail. The Criminal Record Check must not be older than 6 months.

Contact your local Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) or the Winnipeg Police Service to obtain a certified Criminal Record Check.

c) Letter of Offer
Submit the original Letter of Offer provided to you by your employer in Step 3.

d) Supervised Practice Agreement
Submit the original Supervised Practice Agreement signed by you and your supervisor in Step 3.

TIP
Ways to Obtain Insurance Coverage
1. Become a member of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association (CPA)
2. Visit an insurance agency
Average cost of insurance: $1100 (2012)

e) Confirmation of Professional Liability Insurance Coverage
You require a minimum of $5 million in Professional Liability Insurance (also known as Errors and Omissions Insurance). You must provide confirmation of your insurance coverage, such as a certificate of insurance or confirmation stated in your Letter of Offer.

IF YOU HAVE NOT SECURED EMPLOYMENT
Submit these required documents to CPM:
a) Exam Certificate
b) Criminal Record Check

Within 3 months, you must begin employment and submit your outstanding required documents to CPM:
c) Letter of Offer
d) Supervised Practice Agreement
e) Professional Liability Insurance Coverage

If you do NOT begin work in three months, you must re-apply for registration as an Exam Candidate.

TASK 2: APPLICATION FORM
Complete the Application for Registration Form (PDF) to apply for registration as an Exam Candidate

TASK 3: APPLICATION FEE
Pay your Exam Candidate registration fee of $551.25 or $275.63 prorated* (2017), plus the Initial Registration Fee of $100.00 (2017)
*Your registration fee is prorated if you register after August 1.

You may pay by:

  • Cash (in person)
  • Credit card (by phone or in person)
  • Cheque (by mail or in person). Please make cheques payable to College of Physiotherapists of Manitoba

TASK 4: DELIVERY
Mail or hand-deliver all required documents, and your application form and application fee to:

College of Physiotherapists of Manitoba (CPM)

DECISION

CPM will take up to 1 week to process your application. CPM will send you the following by mail:

a) If you have secured employment you will receive:

  • A receipt for your registration fee
  • A decision letter that confirms that you have been registered as an Exam Candidate
  • A CPM membership card
TIP
Provide potential employers with a copy of your Letter of Eligibility. The letter may help you secure employment.

b) If you have NOT secured employment you will receive:

  • A receipt for your registration fee
  • A Letter of Eligibility that explains that you will become registered upon receipt of your outstanding required documents:
    • Letter of Offer
    • Supervised Practice Agreement
    • Confirmation of Insurance

Once you are registered as an Exam Candidate, you may begin Step 5.
